Batch Feeding

Tap Feed at the bottom of the screen, and then tap Batch Feeding to record an unscheduled feed drop to one or more pens.

IMPORTANT:
  • This feature is only available when you’re using this device for feeding. If you change your mind about using a device for feeding, log out of the app and select Yes or No when asked if the device will be used for feeding.
  • Before you can begin using FeedComp to feed at your dairy, you must complete the required setup. See Before You Begin: Required Setup to learn more about the required setup order.
  • Devices used for feeding must be connected to a scale. See Scales to learn more about connecting to your scale.

  1. Tap the recipeClosed A combination of ingredients used to make feed for animals to mix.
  2. Tap + Add Pen under Pens.
  3. Select one or more pens, and then tap Next at the bottom of the screen.
  4. If the feeding was assigned to more than one pen, you can use the handle on the left side of an item to drag and drop it to a new position in the list, and then tap Next at the bottom of the screen.
  5. Select DM/HD or AF, enter the ingredient Amount scheduled for each pen, and then tap Add at the bottom of the screen.
  6. Tap Next at the bottom of the screen.
  7. Tap Start Mix at the bottom of the screen.
  8. If a timer was set for the ingredient, wait for the timer to complete. Or, tap Advance this Ingredient to move to the next step in the recipe.
    NOTE: If the weight of an ingredient detected by the scale drops below the threshold set for the mixerClosed A piece of farm equipment that mixes all the loaded ingredients for a feed recipe. Mobile mixers are most common, but stationary mixers also exist. while mixing a recipe, FeedComp displays an alert that requires attention before adding the next ingredient to the mixer. To set the threshold, see Create New Equipment and Edit Equipment.

    Tap Skip to move the ingredient to the end of the order so you can return to it later. Or, tap Acknowledge to confirm and record the ingredient's actual amount and continue mixing. Acknowledged ingredients are identified with an ACK icon on the Feeding History Report.

  9. Once all of the ingredients are added and the progress bar reaches 100%, FeedComp automatically advances you to drop at the pen. Or, you can tap Start Dropping at the bottom of the screen.

    When you're ready to start dropping, the following options are available in FeedComp:

    • Tap Ignore to ignore this pen. When you ignore a pen, it is skipped and removed from the current order.
    • Tap the arrow to advance to the next pen.
    • Tap Skip to skip this pen. When you skip a pen, it is temporarily skipped and moved to the end of the order so you can return to it later.

  10. Drop the mix at the first pen.
  11. Once the progress bar reaches 100%, FeedComp automatically advances to the next pen. Or, you can tap Advance this Drop to manually move to the next pen. As you drop the mix, the scale weighs the load and FeedComp calculates the percentage complete.
  12. Once all of the drops are complete and the progress bar reaches 100%, FeedComp automatically advances. Or, you can tap Continue at the bottom of the screen to advance manually.
  13. Tap View Report Card at the bottom of the screen to view additional details for the ingredients dropped and pens fed for the batch feeding. The batch feeding is now complete, and FeedComp compiles and presents your batch feeding summary.
