Feedings

You can manage FeedComp on PULSE feedings on the Feedings page. You can find this feature under the FeedComp Menu.

Use this page to create, adjust, and maintain the feedings included in your dairy’s feeding schedule. All of your dairy’s current feedings are listed on the page. The feeder will generally follow the order displayed, moving left to right and top to bottom. Expand the sections below to learn more:

1. Search, Sort, and Filter the Feedings List

   Options to search, sort, and filter the feedings list are available at the top of the page. Follow the guidelines below when working with the feedings list:

   • Click Filters at the top left of the page to limit the data that is displayed. The Filters side panel opens.
   • Type text in the Feeding Name field to search the list of feedings by name.
   • Select a Pen to limit the list to a specific pen. Multiple pens can be selected. You can also type text directly in the field to search for pens by name.
   • Select Equipment to limit the list to specific equipment. Multiple equipment names can be selected. You can also type text directly in the field to search for equipment by name.
   • Select a Type to limit the list to a specific type of recipe A combination of ingredients used to make feed for animals.
   • Active feedings are displayed by default. Check the Show Inactive box to view all available feedings in the list.
   • Click the Clear Filters option to clear all of the filters currently applied.
   • Select an option in View Rows Per Page to change how many records are displayed on the page, and click the navigation options to jump to a specific page.
2. Create New Feeding

   Click Add Feeding at the top right of the page to open the Feeding Builder and enter information for the feeding. Follow the steps below to continue:

   1. Enter the Mix Name.
   2. Select the Equipment to use for the feeding. To learn more about equipment, see Equipment.
   3. Select the Recipe to use for the feeding. To learn more about recipes A combination of ingredients used to make feed for animals, see Recipes.
      TIP: Once the Equipment and a Recipe are selected, the Mixer Capacity for the feeding is calculated and displayed.
   4. Click Next.
   5. Select one or more pens to assign for the feeding in Search. Follow the guidelines below when assigning pens to a feeding:
      • Type text in the Search field to search the list of pens by name. To learn more about pens, see Pens.
      • If more than one pen was assigned to the feeding, you can use the handle on the left side of an item to drag and drop it to a new position in the list and change the feeding order.
   6. Click Next.
   7. Click Add Feeding at the bottom right of the page.
3. Print or Export the Feeding Schedule

   Click the Options button at the top right of the page to print or export your feeding schedule data for further analysis or for record keeping purposes. If you applied filter(s), the data will print or export with the current filter(s) applied.

4. Reorder the Feeding Schedule

   All of your dairy’s current feedings are listed on the page. The feeder will generally follow the order displayed, moving left to right and top to bottom. Follow the steps below to change the feeding order:

   1. Click Reorder Sequence at the top right of the page. The Re-order Feeding Schedule side panel opens.
   2. Use the handle on the left side of an item to drag and drop it to a new position in the list.
   3. Click Save at the bottom right of the side panel.
5. View Feeding Cards

   Follow the guidelines below when viewing feeding cards:

   • Recipe Name: The recipe name is displayed at the top left of the card.
   • Details: Click the Details link at the top right of a feeding card to View Feeding Details.
   • Remaining Mixer Capacity: The Remaining Mixer Capacity bar shows how much feed is used in the mixer A piece of farm equipment that mixes all the loaded ingredients for a feed recipe. Mobile mixers are most common, but stationary mixers also exist. for the feeding. The green part of the bar shows how much feed is loaded into the mixer for the feeding. The gray part of the bar shows the mixer's remaining capacity. If the bar is completely green, the mixer has reached full capacity.
   • Recipe: The recipe name.
   • Pens: The pen number for each pen assigned to the feeding in a color-coded label. When more than 2 pens are assigned to a feeding, a number is displayed that indicates how many additional pens are assigned to the feeding. Hover over the number to see the additional pens assigned.
   • Total AF Amount: The total as-fed amount for the recipe.
   • Equipment: The name of the equipment used for the feeding.
6. View Feeding Details

   Click the Details link at the top right of a feeding card to view the feeding's details. The Feeding Details page opens. Follow the guidelines below when viewing feeding details:

   • Feeding Details: Details about the feeding are displayed at the top of the page.

     The following information is displayed at the top of the Feeding Details page:

     • Recipe: The name of the recipe. You can click the name of the recipe to open the Recipe Details page and view more information. See Recipes for more information.
     • Total AF Amount: The total as-fed amount for the recipe.
     • Equipment Name: The name of the equipment used for the feeding.
     • Mixer Capacity: The total capacity of the equipment used for the feeding.
     • Remaining Mixer Capacity: The Remaining Mixer Capacity bar shows how much feed is used in the mixer for the feeding The green part of the bar shows how much feed is loaded into the mixer for the feeding. The gray part of the bar shows the mixer's remaining capacity. If the bar is completely green, the mixer has reached full capacity.
   • Ingredients: A list of ingredients that have been added to the recipe are displayed in the Ingredients table.

     Follow the guidelines below when viewing the ingredients list:

     • Ingredient Name: The name of the ingredient. You can click the name of the ingredient to open the Ingredient Details side panel and view more information. See View Ingredient Details to learn more.
     • Location: The name of the location where the ingredient is currently stored.
     • AF Amount: The as-fed amount for the ingredient.
     • AF Cost/Ton: The as-fed (AF As fed) unit cost per ton for the ingredient.
     • DM%: The dry matter The dry weight of an ingredient with no mositure percentage for the ingredient.
     • Total: The total as-fed (AF) amount and unit cost per ton for all ingredients.
   • Pens: A list of pens that are currently assigned to the feeding are displayed in the Pens table.

     Follow the guidelines below when viewing the pens list:

     • Pen: The pen number. You can click the number of a pen to open the Pen Details page and view more information. See Pens to learn more.
     • Name: The pen name set by your dairy.
     • Type: The pen type in a color-coded label.
     • Feeding Count: The current number of animals in the pen.
     • Total AF Amount: The total as-fed amount for the pen.
     • AF Cost/Pen: The as-fed (AF) unit cost per pen.
     • Target DM/HD: The target dry matter (DM The dry weight of an ingredient with no mositure) amount per head for the pen.
     • Total: The total as-fed (AF) amount for all pens.
7. Edit, Deactivate, or Reactivate Feedings

   Edit Feeding

   1. Click the Details link at the top right of a feeding card to update the feeding's details. The Feeding Details page opens.
   2. Click the Options button at the top right of the page, and then select Edit Feeding to open the Feeding Builder and update information for the feeding.

      Or, select Deactivate Feeding to deactivate the feeding.

   TIP: Don't see the feeding? Click Filters at the top left of the page and then check the Show Inactive box to view all available feedings in the list.

   Deactivate Feeding

   1. Click the Details link at the top right of a feeding card to update the feeding's details. The Feeding Details page opens.
   2. Click the Options button at the top right of the page, and then select Deactivate Feeding.
   3. Click Yes to confirm the inactivation.

   Reactivate Feeding

   1. Click Filters at the top left of the page.
   2. Check the Show Inactive box to view all available feedings in the list.
   3. Click the Details link at the top right of a feeding card to update the feeding's details. The Feeding Details page opens.
   4. Click Activate Feeding at the top right of the page.
      NOTE: Activate Feeding is only available for deactivated feedings.
   5. Click Yes to confirm the activation.
