Recipe Details

FeedComp on PULSE allows you to view or edit the details of a recipe A combination of ingredients used to make feed for animals. To access this feature, open the Recipes page, click the Recipes tab to view all available recipes A combination of ingredients used to make feed for animals, and then click the Details link at the top right of a recipe card.

Follow the guidelines below when working with recipe details:

1. View Recipe Details

   • Recipe Details: Details about the recipe are displayed at the top of the page.

     The following information is displayed at the top of the Recipe Details page:

     • DM/HD: The dry matter The dry weight of an ingredient with no mositure (DM The dry weight of an ingredient with no mositure) amount per head for the recipe.
     • AF/HD: The as-fed (AF As fed) amount per head for the recipe.
     • DM%: The dry matter percentage for the recipe.
     • AF Cost/Ton: The as-fed (AF) unit cost per ton for the recipe.
     • AF Cost/HD: The as-fed (AF) unit cost per head for the recipe.
     • Density Factor: How much of the recipe can be loaded into the equipment based on weight and bulk. Click here to learn more!
     • Active/Inactive: Icons indicate whether the recipe is active or inactive . See Deactivate or Reactivate Recipes to deactivate or reactivate recipes.
   • Recipe Composition: A color-coded summary of the ingredient types in the recipe. Click here to learn more about ingredient types!
   • Edit Recipe: Click Edit Recipe at the top right of the page to open the side panel and update information for the recipe. See Edit Recipe for more information.
   • Recipe Directions: A list of ingredients that have been added to the recipe are displayed in the Recipe Directions table.

     Follow the guidelines below when working with recipe directions:

     • Seq: The order the ingredients are loaded into the equipment. You can change the order if necessary. See Adjust Ingredient Order to learn more.
     • The name of the ingredient. You can click the name of the ingredient to open the Ingredient Details side panel and view more information.Ingredient:
     • Location: The name of the location where the ingredient is currently stored. You can select a different location if necessary.
     • DM Amount: The dry matter amount for the ingredient. You can click the edit icon to update the amount if necessary.
     • DM %: The dry matter percentage for the ingredient.
     • AF Amount: The as-fed amount for the ingredient. You can click the edit icon to update the amount if necessary.
     • Time Delay: How long to delay after this ingredient is added before loading more ingredients into the equipment. You can select a different duration of time if necessary. See Add a Time Delay when Mixing Ingredients to learn more.
     • Delete Ingredient: Click the delete icon to remove an ingredient from the recipe. See Remove Ingredients from a Recipe to learn more.
     • Add Ingredient: Select each ingredient you want to add to the recipe in Add Ingredient. See Add Ingredients to a Recipe to learn more.
     • Reset and Save: If changes were made to the recipe, click Reset to discard or Save to accept your changes.
2. Edit Recipe

   Click Edit Recipe at the top right of the page. The Edit Recipe side panel opens. From here, you can change the recipe details, and:

   • Deactivate Recipe
   • Reactivate Recipe

   TIP: Don't see the recipe? Click Filters at the top left of the page and then check the Show Inactive box to view all available recipes in the list.
3. Deactivate or Reactivate Recipes

   Deactivate Recipe

   1. Click Edit Recipe at the top right of the page. The Edit Recipe side panel opens.
   2. Click the Active Recipe toggle to deactivate the recipe.
   3. Click Save at the bottom right of the side panel.

   NOTE: A recipe used in a feeding cannot be deactivated, but you can remove the recipe from the feeding and then deactivate it. See Feedings for more information.

   Reactivate Recipe

   1. Open the Recipes page.
   2. Click the Recipes tab to view all available recipes.
   3. Click Filters at the top left of the page.
   4. Check the Show Inactive box to view all available recipes in the list.
   5. Click the Details link at the top right of a recipe card to view the recipe's details. The Recipe Details page opens.
   6. Click Edit Recipe at the top right of the page. The Edit Recipe side panel opens.
   7. Click the Active Recipe toggle to activate the recipe.
   8. Click Save at the bottom right of the side panel.
4. Edit Ingredients

   Click Edit Ingredients at the top right of the page. The Recipe Directions become editable. From here, you can:

   • Adjust Ingredient Order
   • Add a Time Delay when Mixing Ingredients
   • Remove Ingredients from a Recipe
   • Add Ingredients to a Recipe
5. Adjust Ingredient Order

   To adjust the ingredient mixing order for a recipe:

   1. Click Edit Ingredients at the top right of the page. The Recipe Directions become editable.
   2. In the Recipe Directions table, use the handle on the left side of an item to drag and drop it to a new position in the list.
   3. Click Save at the bottom right of the table.
6. Add a Time Delay when Mixing Ingredients

   1. Click Edit Ingredients at the top right of the page. The Recipe Directions become editable.
   2. In the Time Delay column of the table, select how long to delay after this ingredient is added before loading more ingredients into the equipment.
   3. Click Save at the bottom right of the table.
7. Remove Ingredients from a Recipe

   1. Click Edit Ingredients at the top right of the page. The Recipe Directions become editable.
   2. Click the delete icon in the Recipe Directions table to remove an ingredient from the recipe.
   3. Click Save at the bottom right of the table.

   NOTE: The last ingredient in a recipe cannot be deleted.
8. Add Ingredients to a Recipe

   1. Click Edit Ingredients at the top right of the page. The Recipe Directions become editable.
   2. Select each ingredient you want to add to the recipe in Add Ingredient at the bottom left of the Recipe Directions table.
   3. Complete the following information for each ingredient added to the recipe:
      • Location: Select the name of the location where the ingredient is currently stored.
      • DM Amount: Click the edit icon to edit the ingredient's dry matter (DM) amount.
      • AF Amount: Click the edit icon to edit the ingredient's as-fed (AF) amount.
      • Time Delay: Select the amount of time FeedComp should wait before loading more ingredients after this ingredient is added.
   4. Click Save at the bottom right of the table.
9. Assign Alternate Recipes

   If your dairy runs out of an ingredient, your feeding technician can select an alternate recipe to keep your herd fed until the ingredient is restocked. An alternate recipe can be used to add weighback Feed leftover from the day before, which helps dairies track the actual amount of feed the animals consumed. ingredients to a feed mix and help you reduce waste.

   Follow the guidelines below when working with alternate recipes:

   • A recipe cannot have more than one alternate recipe assigned.
   • A recipe can be assigned as an alternate recipe to multiple other recipes.
   • Inactive recipes cannot be assigned as an alternate recipe.
   • Two recipes cannot be alternates for each other. For example, if recipe #4 is assigned as an alternate recipe to recipe #3, recipe #3 cannot also be assigned as an alternate recipe to recipe #4.
   • Recipes currently using an alternate cannot be activated as an alternate recipe in another recipe. For example, if recipe #1 is assigned to and activated in recipe #2, and if recipe #1 is then assigned to recipe #5, recipe #1 cannot be activated in recipe #5 until recipe #1 is deactivated in recipe #2.
   • Recipes currently replacing other recipes cannot activate their alternate recipe. For example, if recipe #1 is assigned to and activated in recipe #2, and if recipe #4 is then assigned to recipe #1, recipe #4 cannot be activated in recipe #1 until recipe #1 is deactivated in recipe #2.

   To assign alternate recipe options that can replace a recipe if the original recipe can't be made:

   1. Click Assign Alternate Recipe in the Alternate Recipe section of the page. The Add Alternate Recipe side panel opens.
   2. Select the recipe to assign as an alternate in Assign Alternate Recipe.
   3. Click Save at the bottom right of the side panel.
10. Deactivate or Reactivate Alternate Recipes

    1. To deactivate an alternate recipe, click the Deactivate link in the Alternate Recipe table. Or, if the alternate recipe has already been inactivated, click the Activate link to reactivate it.
    2. Click Yes to save the changes.

11. View Feedings Using a Recipe

    View all feedings using the recipe in the Feedings using this Recipe table at the bottom of the page. Follow the guidelines below when working with the feedings list:

    • Feeding Name: The name of the feeding. You can click the name of the feeding to open the Feeding Details side panel and view more information.
    • Pens: The pen number for each pen assigned to the feeding in a color-coded label. When more than 2 pens are assigned to a feeding, a number is displayed that indicates how many additional pens are assigned to the feeding. Hover over the number to see the additional pens assigned.
    • AF Amount: The target and the as-fed amounts for the recipe.
    • Equipment Name: The name of the equipment used for the recipe.
