Recipes

Follow the guidelines below when working with recipes:

1. Search, Sort, and Filter the Recipes List

   Options to search, sort, and filter the recipes list are available at the top of the page. Follow the guidelines below when working with the recipes list:

   • Click Filters at the top left of the page to limit the data that is displayed. The Filters side panel opens.
   • Type text in the Recipe Name field to search the list of recipes by name.
   • Active recipes are displayed by default. Check the Show Inactive box to view all available recipes in the list.
   • Click the Clear Filters option to clear all of the filters currently applied.
   • Select an option in Sort By at the top right of the page to change how the page is sorted. Select an option in View Rows Per Page to change how many records are displayed on the page, and click the navigation options to jump to a specific page.
2. Create New Recipe

   TIP: If you need to add a premix, see the steps in Create New Premix.

   Click Add Recipe at the top right of the page to open the Recipe Builder and enter information for the recipe A combination of ingredients used to make feed for animals. Follow the steps below to continue:

   1. Enter the Recipe Name. The name entered must be unique and cannot match the name of existing recipes.
   2. Enter the Density Factor to indicate how much of the recipe can be loaded into the equipment based on weight and bulk:
      • A density factor that is lower than 100% indicates recipes with ingredients that are lighter in weight but take up a lot of space (like dry hay). They will fill the mixer A piece of farm equipment that mixes all the loaded ingredients for a feed recipe. Mobile mixers are most common, but stationary mixers also exist.'s available space before they reach its maximum weight capacity.
      • A density factor that is higher than 100% indicates recipes with ingredients that are more compact and heavy (like a Premix recipe, which is typically dense if it does not have forages in the recipe). They will reach the mixer's maximum weight capacity even though they do not fill all of its available space.
   3. Click Next.
   4. Select each ingredient you want to add to the recipe in Add Ingredient.
   5. To change the load order of an ingredient in the recipe, use the handle on the left side of an item to drag and drop it to a new position in the list.
   6. Complete the following information for each ingredient added to the recipe:
      • Location: Select the name of the location where the ingredient is currently stored.
      • DM Amount: Click the edit icon to edit the ingredient's dry matter The dry weight of an ingredient with no mositure (DM The dry weight of an ingredient with no mositure) amount.
      • AF Amount: Click the edit icon to edit the ingredient's as-fed (AF As fed) amount.
      • Time Delay: Select the amount of time FeedComp should wait before loading more ingredients after this ingredient is added.
   7. Click Add Recipe at the bottom right of the page.
3. View Recipe Cards

   Follow the guidelines below when viewing recipe cards:

   • Details: Click the Details link at the top right of a recipe card to View or Edit Recipe Details.
   • Recipe DM%: The dry matter percentage for the recipe.
   • Density Factor: How much of the recipe can be loaded into the equipment based on weight and bulk. Click here to learn more!
   • AF Cost/Ton: The as-fed (AF) unit cost per ton for the recipe.
4. View or Edit Recipe Details

   Click the Details link at the top right of a recipe card to view or edit the recipe's details. The Recipe Details page opens. See Recipe Details for more information.

Follow the guidelines below when working with premixes:

1. Search, Sort, and Filter the Premixes List

   Options to search, sort, and filter the premixes list are available at the top of the page. Follow the guidelines below when working with the premixes list:

   • Click Filters at the top left of the page to limit the data that is displayed. The Filters side panel opens.
   • Type text in the Premix Name field to search the list of premixes by name.
   • Active premixes are displayed by default. Check the Show Inactive box to view all available premixes in the list.
   • Click the Clear Filters option to clear all of the filters currently applied.
   • Select an option in Sort By at the top right of the page to change how the page is sorted.
2. Create New Premix

   Click Add Premix at the top right of the page to open the Recipe Builder and enter information for the premix. Follow the steps below to continue:

   1. Enter the Recipe Name. The name entered must be unique and cannot match the name of existing premixes.
   2. Enter the Density Factor to indicate how much of the premix can be loaded into the equipment based on weight and bulk:
      • A density factor that is lower than 100% indicates recipes with ingredients that are lighter in weight but take up a lot of space (like dry hay). They will fill the mixer's available space before they reach its maximum weight capacity.
      • A density factor that is higher than 100% indicates recipes with ingredients that are more compact and heavy (like a Premix recipe, which is typically dense if it does not have forages in the recipe). They will reach the mixer's maximum weight capacity even though they do not fill all of its available space.
   3. Check the Create as Premix box to define the new recipe as a premix.
   4. Enter the weight tolerance allowed when loading the ingredient into the mixer in Load Tolerance.
   5. Click Next.
   6. Select each ingredient you want to add to the premix in Add Ingredient.
   7. To change the load order of an ingredient in the premix, use the handle on the left side of an item to drag and drop it to a new position in the list.
   8. Complete the following information for each ingredient added to the premix:
      • Location: Select the name of the location where the ingredient is currently stored.
      • DM Amount: Click the edit icon to edit the ingredient's dry matter (DM) amount.
      • AF Amount: Click the edit icon to edit the ingredient's as-fed (AF) amount.
      • Time Delay: Select the amount of time FeedComp should wait before loading more ingredients after this ingredient is added.
   9. Click Add Premix at the bottom right of the page.
3. View Premix Cards

   Follow the guidelines below when viewing premix cards:

   • Details: Click the Details link at the top right of a premix card to View or Edit Premix Details.
   • Recipe DM%: The dry matter percentage for the premix.
   • Density Factor: How much of the premix can be loaded into the equipment based on weight and bulk. Click here to learn more!

4. View or Edit Premix Details

   Click the Details link at the top right of a premix card to view or edit the premix's details. The Premix Details page opens. See Premix Details for more information.
